Summer Workshops

To succeed in school, children need ongoing opportunities to learn. This is especially true during the summer months.

XBOT Robotics offers summer workshops to help develop problem solving skills through a hands on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) inspired curriculum.

Examples of summer workshops offered by XBOT Robotics:

  • 3D modeling and 3D printing - Students use TinkerCad.com to develop 3D models of their own design then print their creations using 3D printers. This summer workshop was developed in partnership with City of Seattle Technology Matching Grants.

  • FRC robot design, manufacturing, and assembly - Students design and build a complete FRC-style robot over an 8-week period. The summer a ball-shooting robot was built it featured a rotating turret and computer vision system to track moving targets and continuously aim the turret toward the target.

  • Electrical Bootcamp - Students learn basic electrical concepts, materials, tools, and parts used in the design and assembly of FRC robots.

  • Mechanical Bootcamp - Students learn basic mechanical design principles, fabrication skills, and skills required to build a robot to specifications provided in CAD drawings. Students build functioning robot mechanisms including drive trains and actuators powered by motors and pneumatics.

  • CAD Bootcamp - Students learn how to develop 3D CAD models and drawings using Solidworks or OnShape then use the models to produce plastic parts using a laser-cut and aluminum parts using a CNC Router.

  • Programming Workshops - Students programming in Java learn to collect data from common robot sensors, control the robots motors and pneumatics, and enable a robot to navigate and respond to its environment autonomously. Students programming in C++ and Python learn to design and implement computer vision and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) capabilities.

STEM Beacon Hill

XBOT Robotics partnered with the City of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods to offer robotics workshops at the Beacon Hill Library. Our free Sunday workshops offered elementary students in grades 2 through 5 the opportunity to learn Lego WeDo Robotics.
